A thermal mass flow meter uses the principle of heat transfer to measure the mass flow of gases. A sensor element is heated. When gas flows past the sensor, it dissipates the heat. The electronics then regulate the heating power to maintain a constant temperature difference. The energy input required for this is directly proportional to the mass flow rate. This enables precise measurement of the gas flow without the need for additional pressure or temperature compensation. Advantages include high accuracy, repeatability and low maintenance.
