Vortex flowmeters

Vortex flowmeters are high-precision measuring devices and are suitable for measuring liquids, gases and steams in a wide temperature range. Vortex flowmeters are ideal for measuring low-viscosity liquids and for direct flow measurement of the steam.

 

Vortex flowmeters can measure a wide variety of media in the chemical, petrochemical, energy and heat supply industries. These include saturated steam, superheated steam, compressed air, nitrogen, liquid gases, flue gases, carbon dioxide, demineralised water, solvents, heat transfer oils, boiler feed water or condensates.

A vortex flow meter is based on the principle of the Kármán vortex (Kármán vortex street). When a fluid (e.g. water or air) flows through an opening or an object, a vortex pattern called a Kármán vortex forms behind the object. The frequency of these vortices is proportional to the flow velocity of the fluid.

 

The vortex flow meter uses these vortices to measure the flow velocity of the fluid. A special sensor detects the vortices and converts them into electrical signals. These signals are then processed by a processor to calculate the flow rate of the fluid.

  • High accuracy: Vortex flowmeters offer high accuracy and a low error rate (approx. 0.75 % of the measured value for liquids and approx. 1 % for gases)
  • Wide measuring range: Vortex flowmeters can cover a wide measuring range and are therefore suitable for various applications.
  • Suitable for a variety of media: Vortex flowmeters can be used to measure liquids, gases and steam
  • Low pressure loss: Compared to other flowmeters, vortex flowmeters cause a lower pressure loss, which enables energy savings.
  • Density, pressure, temperature and viscosity of the medium have almost no influence
  • High temperature ranges: Temperature range from -20 ° C to +250 ° C can be measured
